I absolutely love chips and salsa. Always have, and even now that I am gluten free, it’s something I can still enjoy.
But, I learned today, not at Chili’s.
My gluten sensitivity is normally not sensitive enough for cross-contamination, but I guess it’s been a while since Chili’s has changed their deep fryer oil because I got instantly sick.
At the resturaunt, at the library, and then I came home and fell into a gluten induced coma for two hours.
Even now, I am pretty sure I could sleep for the next two days, which won’t work at all because my calendar was already jam-packed full of things that I cannot reschedule.
I looked it up online, and it seems as though a lot of people have had a reaction to their chips and salsa. They are not listed on their GF menu, even though they are in fact GF because of the cross contamination. But, like I said before, this is usually not an issue for me.
So, with great pain, I must cross Chili’s off my list of places to eat out because I cannot refuse this tasty appetizer, and their GF food isn’t all that and a bag of chips. (ha!)
I hear ya Sister!! I’m so sorry you had this happen, it’s such a pain 🙁 After many gluten exposures I’ve decided to stop eating out anywhere except Chipolte. Thank Goodness for Chipolte!! I <3 them. I did figure out I've developed the casein allergy too. (Many GF people end up with this one too) I tried to eat a bowl of chex w/ lactose free milk and got instantly sick. As you know I've been reacting to alot of stuff lately. So there ya go, maybe the Abrusci's incident was from dairy. (Steve's Rigatoni and sausage…. umm) I sure hope so!! Maybe I'll get the courage to try there again… I was reading a blog the other day and the girl was taking Gluten-ease. She said it helps with the fog and sickness but that she stills gets bloated. I haven't researched it yet tho'… Hope you feel better soon and if you need to reschedule us it's totally fine. I just want you to feel better 🙂
Mendy – Chipolte gives me a tummy ache. It might be because it’s a bit greasy and I have no gall bladder. 🙁
It is so strange – I have been eating regular chicken nuggets from Chick-Fil-A and Wendy’s with no troubles, but there are certain things that do me in immediately … so it doesn’t seem to be just gluten, or perhaps there’s such a small amount in their nuggets that I am okay. Not sure!! When I do get a reaction, I can tell almost immediately – about 10 minutes after I eat whatever it is that is bothering me. In fact, that’s the only reason I googled their chips and salsa is because of the timing of when I got sick – I knew it had to be that. When I googled it, A LOT of people said they too got sick from them. So weird.
As far as tomorrow, we are ON! I emailed you about times, but I am all yours! 😀 Looking forward to it!
