Travis and I both like to cook and I love to bake. There are things I use in the kitchen that I would pay any amount to replace, should the need ever arise. Here are my five favorite things in the kitchen:
- Â I cannot make cookies without my pampered chef stoneware. I have tried, God knows I have tried. But instead of cookies I make flat, oily pancakes that end up rock hard within ten minutes. It is a science wonder really.
- I never used rubber spatulas for anything until I bought some from Williams Sonoma. How they get plastic to stay perfect up to 500 degrees is beyond me, but I cannot live without them. And they clean my flat top stove. What more could a girl want?
- I absolutely LOVE my crock pot. I didn’t use it when I was gone for nine hours a day, but now that I am home I love to get everything ready in the morning and forget about it until right before Travis comes home. This is a must have for me.
- My pampered chef nut chopper. I love it because it is big and I can chop a lot at one time. I love it because it is super easy to clean. But most of all I love it because it is so easy to press Monkey can work it. I have to admit, this is my second one and the plastic is cracking on this one just as it did on the last, but I haven’t found anything better so in my cabinet it stays.
- Last but not least, I love Monkeys Learning Tower. For those of you who just said ‘Monkeys what?’ let me explain. It is an adjustible stool that is fully enclosed on all sides. Monkey can use it to help me cook, or do crafts. Because it holds up to 300 lbs, daddy can use it to paint the ceiling trim and mommy can use it to clean the top of the fridge. This is the stool of all stools.
What are your five faves in the kitchen? Be sure to let us know why and where you got them so we can get them too!
Hi!
I don’t really have favorites in the kitchen, cooking is not really my thing, although I do it everyday. My Drama Queen (she’s 11) loves to cook and wants to be a chef someday. She has begged me to buy her that spatula from Williams Sonoma every time we’ve gone in there. She wants the pink one. I guess I’ll have to give in and buy it for her next time we’re in there since you recommend it! I love your blog!
Velvia
No excuses! If you cook every day you MUST have some things that make life easier for you. What are Drama Queens faves? Does she have the stool? If not and she loves cooking as much as she loves drama, you might consider it for a birthday. 😉 On a side note – you cannot buy the stool in stores – online only so plan ahead!
Thanks for the interest and comment on the blog! I hope you keep reading!
As someone who’s never been a huge fan of cooking I thought this might be tough to answer. I do most of the cooking now as primary homemaker and must admit, I’ve gotten much better at it. I’ve also found that I take great pleasure in mixing spices, enhancing recipes to our taste and putting enormous amounts of love into my meals. Most of all I’ve found that even though I don’t neccessarily like to cook, I looooove watching my family enjoy a meal I have cooked for them! So it’s a wonderful trade off. I do, however love to bake! So, here are my faves:
1) I could not live with out my Pampered Chef large mixing bowl. I’ve had it for 10 years and use it for just about anything from cookie and cake mixes to the glorious guts of my famous chicken pot pie (our family’s favorite!)
2) 2 Corningware, small round and medium oval, baking bowls/pots (I’m not sure what you call them – shrug?) Anyway, the larger one I use much for baked breaded stuffed chicken (another family favorite) and the small round cooks cans of soup for lunches or vegetables as a side. I love that they both have lids along with them as well.
3) A really good set of knives is a must in my kitchen! Before we got the set that we have now, I can’t tell you how many times I sliced into a finger because a knife as dull as a spreader slid off of whatever I was cutting and managed to easily slice right into my skin. Youch!
4) My gas stove! I don’t know what I did without my gas stove before. I think my cooking has improved considerably with it’s ease of control. Love it!!
5) Last but not least… drum roll please… my new obsession is this new potato masher thing I found. I used to take my cut up and boiled potatoes and mash them with a mixer which ultimately left me with slightly lumpy mashed potatoes. No longer! I now have this fancy gadget (5 bucks at Bed, Bath and Beyond). It’s made of metal. It’s like a huge garlic press. You stick the pieces of potato in it and push the press into it and viola! Perfectly mashed potatoes every time! I find myself looking for excuses to make mashed potatoes, just so I can use it. 😉
This was great Ang!! I’m going to post it on my blog too and see what kind of responses I get. Very cool. Love the blog girlie! It inspires me to write in mine more. Tee hee…
Oh duh! I didn’t even think of my knives. I agree… my chefs knife is my favorite… but I also really like one of the smaller knives (I know they all have names, but I don’t know what they are!) because I peel potatoes and cut up fruit with it.
You do need to write in your blog. I check it almost every day to find the same posts! Get on it girl!
