One of the first things we did when Daddy found out he was going to take vacation was plan a trip to the zoo.  We had just gotten our annual zoo pass in the mail, and since we didn’t have one last year, we were rearing to go!

Our favorite zoo is the Cheyenne Mountain Zoo.  There are so many reasons I love this zoo.  Here’s a few reasons why:

It’s built on the side of the mountain.  I’ll show a pic of that later, but they do a fantastic job of making if feel natural.  Right down to the baby chipmunks happily playing just feet from the entrance of the zoo.

Spring is always a fun time to go because all of the babies are out with their mommies.  It was a little chilly the day we went, but that didn’t stop this beautiful baby from reaching out from her pen to chow down on some crackers.

Not that his mommy would stand by without getting a little bit for herself.

As we climbed the stairs near the monkey exhibit, I was a little disappointed that the monkeys were no where to be found.  I thought they were inside enjoying a warm spa or something of that nature, but when we reached the top of the stairs we saw this:

For about 2.6 seconds I thought we were witnessing some kind of tragedy (aka. they were all dead).  Then I realized they were sleeping.  Then Daddy explained the cold in the air makes them lethargic.  Not sure if that’s true, but it sounded legit so we moved on.  When I turned around to go back down, I saw this:

Wow.  Have I mentioned before I love living in Colorado?

Once we caught our breath from that view, we made our way down to the bear exhibit. We had so much fun watching them and one of them came so close and started looking for a fish in the water.

By the way, that picture was taken with a prime lens, so that bear is really that close!

We had a great time.  Even the boy was all smiles and giggles.

I can’t wait to go back, and if you are local and want to go together, just give us a shout when you are heading down!
