As Monkey and I got ready for my doctors appointment this morning, I was stressed. It felt like no matter what I did, Monkey had her own agenda and wasn’t willing to budge. I asked her to eat her waffle at record speed while I brushed my teeth, and I came down to find she was in the basement getting the kitties because “they were calling her”. I asked her to come sit down so I could comb her hair, and she “had to get dollie to show her new shoes”. I repeated the phrase ‘you need to be a good listener today’ at least 30 times before 10am. That’s not a good start for us.

With my patience running thin, we arrived at the doctor. I went inside of the new building only to find their name was not listed in the directory. I called Daddy, who didn’t answer. I practically screamed at Monkey who thought it would be a good idea to stand just out of my view in the parking lot, even though I gave her very specific instruction on where to stand while I used the phone. I called the main office, obtained the suite number and we headed up.

I was nervous for the appointment because I was scheduled to see a different doctor today since we are going out of town at the end of this week and my doctor wasn’t available today. I was slightly concerned because I have had some changes and had been cramping a little. I have also started having braxton hicks contractions at night. I also felt like I’ve gained 40 pounds in the last month because I have felt nothing but hungry and have done nothing but eat. This is a very hungry Caterpillar!

I met the doctor and he was very nice, and very good with Monkey. He let her hold the heartbeat doppler and told her she had to ask to do it every time because she did such a good job with it. He also told her how important it was to help with baby things since she was a big sister now. After he listened to the heartbeat he asked if we knew the sex of the baby. I told him we were told it was a boy. He said the heartbeat sounded in the lower range, so if we believed the wives tale, it was.

He also asked how big Monkey was when she was born. I told him 8 lbs, 6 oz and he said ‘That’s a big baby – especially in Colorado’. I had read online previously that because of the oxygen level in our altitude, our babies tend to be a little smaller. He then said he expected Caterpillar to be big as well. He said I was measuring about 2 inches larger then the chart said is average and he moved my due date up by four days. Therefore, our new due date is November 15. I told him that was great because we were scheduled to share a birthday, and because I remember what the end of pregnancy is like, and the earlier the better!

I asked about my weight gain and it turns out I have gained a total of 7 lbs with this pregnancy. I know that doesn’t sound like a lot, but I had enough weight to share before I got pregnant, so I was hoping to only gain about 15-20lbs this time around. He said the baby weighs about 2lbs right now. We talked about the cramping and such and he said it was nothing to worry about at this stage of the game unless I started bleeding, which I haven’t had anything like that.

To wrap things up, he told me to keep it up, that a good one was cooking in there and Monkey and I were off. Not before I scheduled my glucose test (YUK) two weeks out, but overall a good report.
